Saturday Vegging At The Casa

Yesterday was one of the strangest days in recent memory.

We had been  following the weather on the news because we knew that there was another cold front on the way and I am a weather junkie..I know , pretty damn lame. Nonetheless, when there is the threat of ice on the roads,,ears perk up.

Now, I had more than the usual number of chuckleheads come up and ask.." Are we going to be open tomorrow ? "

Yeah...I know all  of you want a snow day..I get that , I really do.

Here's a thought :

Listen to the damn news in the morning and make the adult choice.

No job is worth putting your life in peril.

Lather.
Rinse .
Repeat.

Again.

Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.

If  the schools are closed , they are closed for a reason. I don't know if this still holds true, but federal funding for schools used to be based in part by the number of days students were actually present so they do not shut down willy nilly. It costs them money and like most everything else, they are a business. If the schools are closed, you as a parent need to be home with your genetic legacies. NO..do NOT bring them to work . If I have to explain this to you I will smack you , I promise .

I watched the look on Gordon's face as we watched the news and I had no problem deciding F no , I wasn't going in. Thank fully, when I mentioned to HR that I had chuckleheads asking me about firm policy, she agreed without prompting that using both common sense and pto *  if necessary was the way to go..bless her, I wonder about her at times but when needed, the powers that be do in fact step up to the plate.

I also have to give kudos to the local news wonks.

They gave real time coverage to the conditions in a calm and professional way for once rather than the  : OH MY GOD>>>> WE'RE GONNA DIE !!!! " sort of reaction that they usually reserve for hurricane season. Granted, after IKE and KATRINA..it was humorous at times to see the Shatner-esq over acting about the conditions where there wasn't jack shite going on. They were focused and as we watched beyond their usual time frame we realized that it wasn't getting better, It continued to rain as since we were still below freezing, the ice kept forming. The girls don't park their cars in covered parking like we do so their cars were completely iced over. We could see ice on the driveway and in the streets.

I of course had my usual reaction to extreme weather . I have been on both ends and I only have one thought.

Get laundry, dishes etc done before we lose power.

No , it didn't look as if power was an issue but that's how I roll.

It was nice to stay home and watch movies but we both are like Gracie. After a certain point, cabin fever sets in.

Next time, I will make sure that we have enough groceries in the fridge....like eggs.

It was over 60 degrees today so a Kroger run was made, I guess we didn't need the cupcakes after all....dammit.

I am sure that  Monday will be all full of war stories about the conditions that the young and dumb went through to get to work.....................yawn.

Psst..no one is going to be impressed...thrust me here.

Been there, done that .

Chocolate Covered Popcorn Y'all.

CHOCOLATE COVERED POPCORN

Today is National Popcorn Day. Add Chocolate! Chocolate Covered Popcorn is so easy to make. You can use dark or white chocolate--or both. Just drizzle some great melted chocolate over your air-popped Popcorn. Drizzle sparingly.  Want to add an extra pop? Drizzle with melted caramel sauce, too!

CHOCOLATE COVERED POPCORN

1. Make a bag of popcorn (buttered or plain) and pop it according to the directions. (airpopping!)

2. Put popped popcorn into large bowl or flat baking pan (for more even distribution).

3. Melt dark or white chocolate or both (in separate bowls) in top of double boiler (or in microwave).

4. Drizzle chocolate on popcorn.

I am so making this...I may even use a combination of white and dark.

Slacker Sunday - Just Waiting For Sherlock on PBS Tonight

We had the best time last night with Scott and Mindy. They had not been up to see the renovations from last year so it was great that everyone's schedules worked out . Gordy made the potatoes pictured above after reading the blog post I put up here and they turned out great . He found the smallest potatoes that I have ever seen at HEB,,they looked like large marbles ,they were that small I promise. Now , I think you could even use fingerling's or small red potatoes but what the hell. He was the chef so his call. Of course he had to make crab cakes because that's what every one always want and for us it's a no brainer

I do have to brag a minute because I was a good girl and when I realized that the triple chocolate pudding Gordy made had whipped real  cream on the top of it , with German chocolate shavings on it..I passed it down the table before the third bite.

I SACRIFICED PUDDING WITH CREAM FOR MY LACTOSE ISSUE Y'ALL.

YEAH ME !!!!!!!!!!!

One of  the more surprising things that I noticed is that as we have all gotten older, there was a hell of a lot less wine consumed for whatever reasons, and  waking up fairly intact was a nice thing. I guess that we are all at the point where we know that it is just not worth it anymore. Live and learn it seems.

Of course he is off today chasing the small white ball with the Moron ( said with heaps of love ) so I am doing the table linens and bits of laundry as I sit here and watch the third Transformers movie on the t slant v. LOL....we finally got the sound bar hooked up , of course it took a house call from the Geek Squad to do it....who knew we needed an OPTICAL CABLE for the beast. I gotta tell ya, I don't really  see ahuge improvement for regular cable tv, but for a movie...JEEBUS H ON A CRACKER..it's like that old Memorex commercial and if you are not careful.....yowzah !

I probably won't make it up for the new " Sherlock " tonight since it is a 2 hour program starting at 9:30 cst but we are taping and I am off tomorrow so perfect plan at the casa. Bless his heart, he even taped the season 2 finale so we could get caught up...I guess I have to keep him after 25 years after all.

Have whatever  kind of week that floats your boat.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

The rare picture of Bruce with a mustache.

I don't thik I like it very much , not that I got a vote. Usually I really like mustaches and beards on a man..but this time ..meh....not so much.

TGIF y'all. Having been down for 2 days with sinuses, it didn't hit me until I got to the office that it's the thrice dammed cedar pollen.Every one at the office is suffering with it. My problem is that due to the nature of my job ( gate keeper) , I cannot go hide in the cube farm and basically avoid dealing with clients. I  an the yutz ya gotta deal with.

When it gets this bad, I can barely get out of bed and then genius that I am when I finally rolled out yesterday, my complete sense of time was askew so there I was at 3 pm drinking thrice damned coffee. Now , don't mistake me here, I love coffee . But during the week I only drink about a half a cup while dressing ad the other half on the way to  work....he drives, I slurp.

Yeah car pooling !

I can drink it on the weekend , but not on a school night.

So being tired I went to bed at 9:20.

EARLY .

And I lay there.

At 11:15.

At 1:10

BY 2:30 , I thought , well I can handle a couple of hours until the 5 am alarm rousts my ass out of bed since I slept in for 2 bloody days aka the walking dead.

Fine.

Toss , turn, lather , rinse , repeat.

And worst of all.....

IT WAS FRAKKIN DECAF.

I'd go home and crash , but we are having guests tomorrow and while hisself has been home today ( I get Monday, he does not ) doing prep and cleaning, I know that there is stuff I need to do .

If I make it through " Bones"...

Good think the guests are like family . As long as the guest bath is clean..whatevs.

Have a great weekend.

The Look

Yup..that says it all.

I am officially tired of all of this cold weather and wind and crap.
I refuse to look out the windows towards the backyard because it will irritate and then depress me,
Spring can't come soon enough even though I know that it will cost me the proverbial arm and leg for mulch and my manic nursery run.

We have our traditions after all.

Anyone who knows me knows the above look means that you ( the potential victim ) are in fact about 3 steps away from pissing me the hell off so back up lest I end you now.

I like to keep it simple y'all.

Carry on.

Thoughtful Thursday

This is me.
This is me with massive sinuses.
This is me after I have blown my nose enough for it to fall the hell off my face.

Gah !

Kill me now.

I need to eat and nothing appeals right now, except maybe another Pepsi.

Great plan there Pol.

Another cold front is supposed to come through so yippee !

At least tomorrow is Friday .

Toffee Talk Or Why Miss Janet Rudolph Will Be The Death Of Me Yet

http://dyingforchocolate.blogspot.com/2013/08/toffee-talk-takes-gold-in-toffee.html

Maybe because I was still thinking of Grandma Engwall , I thought of my OTHER favorite ice cream , not Rocky Road , the OTHER one..the elusive one that cannot be found at least by me at any cost ..anywhere .

Maybe it's just a Minnesota thing , I'm not sure but it is in the top 5 memories of Grandma's kitchen.

Butter Brickle Ice Cream.

Never heard of it , have ya .

Yep.

Thought so.

The closest way that I can describe it is as a heavy duty French vanilla with bits of toffee in it. Not the nuts or the chocolate part, the actual toffee. Grandma would get extra swanky dontchaknow and would open a can of hershy's chocolate syrup and drizzle it over the bowl.

Bliss , pure bliss.

I have always had a passion for good toffee made with good butter and while some folks are happy with Almond Rocha  ( guilty), nothing beats good toffee.

I can see the confused look on y'alls face.'

So where the hell does Janet Rudolph come in  ?

Well , I read her blog " Dying For Chocolate " every day or I try to. It is one of those no fail sure to cheer my sorry ass up kind of things when I need it, inspiration when I can find it all amusing 365 days a year.

And she had this link for this toffee she wrote about.

Go check it out and if you are on facebook, follow " Toffee Talk."

Say that out loud and not think of Mike Myers impression of his mother in law from SNL and Coffee Talk.

I dare ya.

Manic Monday Munchies

http://www.cooking.com/recipes-and-more/recipes/butter-almond-cake-recipe-10001479.aspx?CCAID=cknwrdne04585au&s=s0034422489s&mid=1761000&rid=34422489#axzz2qJchjtGX

I found this today over at cooking.com and it reminded me of something that my Grandmother would have made for my Grandfather. It's a smallish size recipe so it is not something she would have churned out for the Ladies Guild ( dontchaknow) for after service fellowship in the basement of Grandpa's Church. Even though technically it is no longer Grandpa's church because :

1. He 's retired and thus replaced.
2 . He passed away in 1993 which trumps the above .

I still think of the church ( First Lutheran , Winthrop, Minnesota ) as his because dagnabbit , it is so you can only imagine how my jaw dropped when we were there for his funeral and the parsonage ( GRANDMA AND GRANDPA'S HOUSE DAMMIT ! ) had been painted some gawd awful baby blue....heathens !

Anyhoo......

I want to try this out because it sounds interesting and if it bombs or hisself doesn't care for it and he is more than willing to say if it is so, I won't have wasted a lot of ingredients..that is unless the gals and I finish it off.

Have  a great week .

Thoughtful Thursday

You guys know me, there are very few spuds that I have come across that I do not inhale. I love small red potatoes , especially simply boiled in crab boil and dresssed with the basics..salt, coarse ground ( and I mean really course , almost whole pepper corns..yowzah) and butter.

I like the simplicity of this recipe and the fact that you can prep them early in the day if you need or add stuff to the olive oil...rosemary....roasted garlic....hell roasted garlic smashed and dabbed on top would also work. I can make a meal out of this mess or use it as a side  which is the best part...

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of the Day ~ !

I am not going to try to upload another photo of him because the Gods of the Innertubes or Blargher have decreed that to do so is to incur the wrath of the edit enforcer whose most bestus favority thang is to eff it all the hell up so there ya are.

Ah Bruce, I have missed you and our Friday dates.

I know that you understand the hell that was 2013 for Aunty Pol and being the stand up guy that you are , even in the midst of being unemployed, you will still buy a gal a Mojito or 3.

2013 was for the most part a chaotic suck fest.

Yes, we came out the other side happier but broker with the in place renovation and we love it, I /we/him/us/Gracie will never do another in place again.

F Dat.

I will find an extended stay that takes Kittys.

But....................

That chaos helped divert us from the trauma.

I still can't believe that we lost all 3 last year bringing ti to a total of 5 in 2 years.

So, if I spend a bit on our only child buying  her a bed she may or may not use and new bowls and crap, Hubby knows that it is how I cope.

The other new project is a proposed trip but that may not happed till 2015 because all of the River Cruises I want to book or are interested in are sold out.

Yes  dear, I have been doing research and have quotes requested and being sent.

That's fine too honey, it gives us more time to plan, May 2014 is just too soon in all reality and since this may be something that we only get to do once, let's do it right .

Have a great weekend y'all.

Just Another Manic Monday............

Well, I finally went out and did it .

I saw an ad at Best Buy for laptops and thought " Hot Damn". So....me being me, after the paws and claws bit , off we went.

Of course the one that I wanted was " Out Of Stock".

Really ??????????????????????????????????????????????

w
T
F

The ad came out in yesterdays frakkin paper and you're out ?

Really ?

Sooooo...young sales dude steered me towards an HP with the same features but of course being the klutz that I am , I opted for the insurance and geek squad bit for a year because as I have amply demonstrated, your Aunty here can trip over air ( turbulence folks...nothing to see here , move on ). And thus the  cost was higher than the bundled price but well under what I had expected.

And I know someone out there is asking why...I can hear y'all.

I love the hubby, I really do but I am tired T I R E D y'all of sharing custody of the pc. I want to blog when I want to b log or play facebook games ( current obsession,,Criminal Case.) and just basically do mah thang.

Is it a learning curve ?

You bet!

Am I up for learning new shiny  toys ?

Please forgive the typos..I need a roller ball mouse , this one sucks .

Have you met me ?

Have a great week  !

Baking And Biscoff

http://www.pbs.org/food/fresh-tastes/chocolate-glazed-doughnut-muffins/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=pbsofficial&utm_campaign=pbsfood_freshtastes

Recently, I introduced Southside to Biscoff..as in grab a spoon out of the drawer and have at it.

We've noodled around using it in truffles and then I saw this post ( Mr. Linky above) written by Adrianna Adarme, author of " A Cozy Kitchen " and a food blogger on PBS.

Yes Virginia, PBS has food stuff.

Or are SU and I the only ones to remember and dearly miss the late , great Justin Wilson ?

Anyhoo,,,I read this recipe and I thought , what a great base recipe.

Of course, I shall have to partake of the Biscoff.....as a matter of culinary research.

Happy Boxing Day 2013

Happy Boxing Day or Good gravy m an I glad the holidays is OVAH !

Jeebus H.

Don't get me wrong, it was nice..quiet..nice...lah de dah at the Casa with Southside Johnny on Christmas Eve and all, but..exhausting all the same.

I had a revelation this season that amongst the things I have been able to realize this last year is the gift of the choice of time. Every year that we get a Christmas bonus, it is always on the night of the Christmas party, traditionally the first Thursday of the month.

Nuh Uh this year, it was the 18'th and the real burn was some asshat letting it slip that Atlanta had gotten theirs the week before..so here I am , the Lone Ranger awash in a sea of OMG there is only one more Saturday before Christmas and I got to get mah shit n git.

I've seen it all over the years at the firm, the competitiveness of the singles in the who has the cutest outfit/hotest date/best gift from a partner hoping to get  some under the Mistletoe or not. I've seen attorneys treat their secdretaries to 3 hour section lunches and forget the rest of the staff like me whoo have to keep all their happy asses in line and happy happy joy joy'd up to the gills. I've seen amazing acts of kindness and things that make me weep for humanity.

But I've never seen such expressions of ho hum, bummed out no joy mind numbing don't give a rats ass as I am this year.

Alert the media !

Each and every one of us most likely has some drama going on in their lives , especially during the holidays...but that aside...we have jobs, roofs, food, clean water and all the stuff  that the vast majority in the world don't.

I'm not saying get your asses over served with the Nog...but come on ..snap out of it.

Most of you are lu ckier than you know.

Rant over, carry on.

Transitions

Click to biggify.

It's odd to have the tree in one piece. Up until last year, we hadn't put up a tree in 8 years because  I could not deal with any of it at all. My father passed away January 9'th , 2004 . Finally last year, I felt that it was time so the tree went up.

Mind you, an artificial tree is not meant to  stay in the attic . LOL. You guessed it . That's where we stored it so last year and the poor thing looked like it had mange, we threw it out and decided to get a new one. Now, as much as I like BIG trees, it just doesn't make sense for us to have the Jethro Beaudine size. The previous tree was a 4 1/2 foot tree that we got from Lowes . It fit on the end table and so we thought it was fine. It was actually too big so this year when Walgreens had one for $19.99 , off he went . this thing is maybe 3 feet tall and perfect. Of course it takes smaller ornaments so I will pick some up after the holidays. Other than that it meets all the requirements.........it's pre-lit/pre-wired. You don't want to be in the Casa when hisself has to string lights...I personally don't want to be on the planet.

Sadly tho, we have no kittens stirring to climb it or play with ornaments or sleep under it. I never realized how much I would miss fussing at them as they chose ornaments to fondle. Everyone was a decorator with an opinion. I used to get so irked. Of course now as I have demonstrated, the ornaments don't bounce off the wood floor like they did on carpet to again I have to remind myself..." Soft cloth foldy ones on the bottom.".

Every tradition has to start somewhere so we will adapt to an only child who can't quite figure out if she is supposed to be entertained by all of this or not.

Feliz Navidad Y'all.

For My Boshi Ya Ya

Dear Baby,

We miss you so much already my baby, we really do. Daddy and I are so very sorry that we couldn't make you all mo bedder, we tried honey , we really did . Dr. Tom said that it was all just too much for our wee girl and that it's all just part of the plan. I am taking as much comfort as I can knowing that the three of you are together again and that you have Andy and Munchie and all the others to play and wrestle and nap pile with.

We are going to take care of Gracie Marie with your aunties help so she won't be lonely as an only child.

Kissy face, love the pooh.

We love out baby girl.

Thus Far Or " Look Honey, We Haven't Seen That $80.00 Bottle Of Orbox In Two Months ! "

Lately we had noticed that Gracie Marie had been sneezing more than the occasional " Damn Mama , could you dust the wood floors ?" ..so I made a call to Dr. Tom.last Tuesday and scheduled for 9:30 am on Saturday..I know..I know..anyhoo Thursday night we noticed that Boschka was looking like she felt puny and she had also been sneezing so I called and arranged to bring both the girls in .One of my personal pet peeves is appointments that show up with more than the scheduled number of people/clients/victims.  I see it all the time at the firm and it just pisses me off. There was no problem so of we went.

Gracie Marie is just fine, peachy keen in full health.

Boschka.............................not so much.

My baby's sick y'all.

She has a stuffy nose so she hadn't been eating. If cats and I assume dogs for that matter can't smell their food they won't eat. This led to dehydration. Her tonsils are enlarged and inflamed with what sounds for all the world like Feline tonsillitis.

Four hours of tests/ waiting time later....

She has an upper respiratory infection , a UTI and then it  got better.

NOT !

Tom did a pretty extensive blood panel when he came back in to tell us that her blood sugar was through the roof. They took another urine sample and at that point this heathen was praying for all it was worth....

Yep.

Diabetes.

Tom is not sure if it presented because :

1. The stress of being sick.
2. The stress of being sick and having to go to the vet. ( that would be considered being outside for my baby, she's an indoor girl.)
3. There the whole time and flaring up now.

So..she has 3 meds to take, one a liquid Valium to stimulate her appetite ( brat won't share either ) . We have to give her baby food mixed with pedialite orally and she goes back Saturday at 9 am.

I am just beside myself.

Her Mama.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

Happy Friday and ............HUZZAH  !

Close the damn door Canada, we are freezing to death down here !

WE'RE GONNA DIE !

It's 37 effing degrees down here for crippessake.

In other stories....

Guess what we get to do tomorrow ?

Hint :

PTU's are involved.

Two of them..

Gracis is still sneezing a bit more than I like considering what we went through with Munchie so I made her an appt.....Then Boshi starts sneezing.

Yep.

The one who is the most skittish cat that I have ever had , and really only relates to me, Nee Nee or Space Ghost. The slender, petite Twiggy of the feline world who triples her tensile strength when she is in greased pig escape mode.

That one.

So the plans like this :

She usually is out front when we get home so..................................................

1. Once it is confirmed that she is out front, one or both of us , but I think it should be the Daddy since she will stay with me will go down the hall and close all of the bedroom doors, thus cutting off escape routes leading to the Cat Cave Fortress of Catnipitude aka the small open hole under the water bed head board and inner crawl space area that is Madames fav hidey hole.

2. Those doors will remain closed and all accessable food and water , treats included will be pulled at bedtime or 11 pm which ever comes first.

3. Hisself will sleep on the sofa and I on the waterbed as usual but the door ro the master is to remain closed.

4. I WILL GET UP AT FRIGGAN OH DARK THIRTY ON A COLD , WINDY RAINY SATURDAY MORNING TO WRESTLE MY CHILDREN INTO THE PTU'S.

I only can hope that the meds that they have to get are not as Loki's and Xena's were..2 or 3 x daily for at least 2 weeks. Dosing a cat is just about the worst thing ever....

And here I had simple hopes of getting the tree up.

Le Sigh.

Have a great weekend.

Two Years Today .

Dear Pooky Bear Panda Pants ,

I can't believe it's been two years now that you've been gone. Sometimes when I am on the deck and I look over at the aunties gazebo, I really expect to see your happy butt flying over the corner of the fence hauling paws towards the door. Your Plumbago I am happy to say is doing very nicely and you would approve of the Jasmine growing on the other side of the arbor.

We are putting up a tree soon and I know that while we never had one while you were here , if you ask your bubbie and sissies they will tell you all about it. Your stocking will still be hung up with all of the others so never fear, you are always in our hearts.

Ii want you to take care of all of your sissies and brofur Loki for me . I know that you are but keep special attention on your older brofur . Remember , he is know the brightest of lads , but he is one of the most loving, and that counts more.

We all love you and miss you every day baby boy.

Mama, Daddy, Boschka and Gracie Marie .

This And That For Your Tuesday Reading Pleasure..

Now y'all can throw crap at your screen if you want, though if that is your goal, use spit balls for heaven's sake, these flat screens ain't that cheap yet..
I have officially not only begun Christmas shopping in earnest, I am almost done.

Done.
Over
Ended

Yeah, yeah , slap my silly ass later.

Sistah, the Hickory Farms is headed to your office like we did last year and should be there next week.

For Dakota ( who never fear, isn't going to read this crap ever ! ) , I found in the Met Museum catalog/website a small artists kit that has all sorts of bits and bobs plus a huge packet of paper.  Yes, I paid extra to have them gift wrap it and ship it to Colorado..makes no damn sense at all to have it sent here then just have to ship it out.
\
Amazon had the best price on the Tortuga rum cakes so a dozen of the small variety are on their way to the office...

Since everything on the tee slant vee is a rerun tonight , I figure I may as well stop and Bed Bath and Beyond to pick up some small bits..bonus....20 % off coupon is in my purse and wonder of wonders ..still valid...SCORE !

I am sure that there will be more than a few things that I forget or go completely batshit over when all is said and done, but I have a head start on the stress and feel a lot better.

Have a great week.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

Happy Friday y'all.

Well, I think I'm getting my groove back.

I've posted a couple of recipes that Lady L will kick my ass over, and found a picture of Bruce in a cowboy hat...NOT from Brisco County .

This is unusual.

It's colder than a well diggers ass right now in H town so of course everyone is just freaking their shit out....kinda funny if I do say so.

I spent a bit of time looking for something that I had posted last year or the year before and in the process , I began to read some of what I had cobbled together, especially during the holidays when I realized a couple of things :

1. I can still crack my own ass up ...yeah me.
2. I remembered how much I enjoy posting my self indulged narcissistic drivel with the occasional poignant thought thrown in for good measure.
3. This blog has the power to cheer my sorry ass up when needed and sometimes that is more than I need or am entitled to .

It's been a busy and heartbreaking year and there have been times when it's been all I can do to get out of bed and make it to work. Losing the 4 of them in the last year and a half has shredded me emotionally so bear with me as I try to pull my shit back together.

Love y'all..more than you know.

Hootenanny

I ran across this recipe that I'd forgotten about. I haven't had this since I lived on the East coast and my favorite variation is to tip this with melted raspberry jam or sweet orange marmalade....easy peasy for the weekend or the holidays..or just because .

Hootenanny

1 cup flour

1 cup milk

5 eggs

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Blend together all ingredients, except butter.

Pour the melted butter over the batter in a random manner..don't smooth it out...drizzle it.

Bake for 25 minutes.

Inhale.

Enjoy.

I have a real love hate relationship with being half Swedish .

There are some things I really love :

ABBA
Spritz Cookies
Good Salmon
Krrumkaka.

Other things I really dislike, for example :

IKEA ( I mean really , have you EVER had one of those whatchahootzits ever get assembled the way it was intended ? )
Badly made Swedish meatballs
Lutfisk

While I really love Norse Mythology, having named number one son Loki , I spent far too many years having the Lutheran credo rammed down my throst and so there are times I just ran like hell from all of it.

Now that I have gotten officially old, and the grandparents and mother are long gone, there are times I actually miss the family connection of it all.....or the baking . They are forever entwined in my memory with the vivid pictures of Grandma Engwall baking up a storm from scratch dontchaknow on Saturday afternoons while Grandpa worked on the next days sermon.

I can see in my minds eye my Grandmother making this as she kept an eye on the coffee on the stove for Grandpa ..

Must be the holidays creeping up on me.

Any who..try this tea bread , because that is really what it is..

What can I say , I've got the baking Jones going ...

WHEE !

Have a great weekend.

OMG ~ Whiskey Tango Foxtrot !

I posted this almost a year ago...hahahahah ....

I may rethink the whole tree issue.

LMAO !

It's Not That I Hate The Holidays ...........

Part of me really enjoys the holidays...mwahahah.

Also known as your Aunty is a professional on line shopper, kids ..go run with scissors and leave the professionals to work their magic..oh look...cookies.....and beer......RUN !

The other part...

I think that SU is finally beginning to get how I feel since he took a mental health day today which he sorely needed .

Today was the annual triptophan coma hootenanny ( whole lotta hoot and a lil bit o nanny) wherein folks took equal delight in stuffing themselves in an orgasmically gluttonous frenzy all the while snarking about the various dishes that were presented by both Luby's and fellow co workers . I mean really...how gracious not to mention talented of you heffers to both malign and masticate at the same time.

Bravo !

I kind of want to throw my hands up in the air.

Mea Culpa, I should have gotten a lot moe done by now but WTF , ya know  ? I want to go and get a new tree to put up but just the same, waiting until they are all on sale after the actual day has it's merits too. I've got the holiday cards ( yeah for me ) and I think if I can get a jump on cleaning the dust bunnies in the humble abode this weekend then with an extra day off post T Day, I can get some stuff done.

BUT IF YOU THINK THAT I WILL BE AT THE MALL, YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR E'FFING MIND.

I know exactly where I need to go and I will get it done asap.

Living with the Grinch doesn't mandate that I make it any harder or stressful than I need to .

I have actually given it some thought and this year I won't be the maniac ...well..gonna try at least.

Shiney !

I was jammin around Facebook this morning ( oh like I am the only one that does that at work..yeezus, if you believe that , you need to amp up your Klonopin pronto)..anyhoo....I found the above off a Dr. Who page and hopped over to Mr. Linky.

It's friggan perfect.

The Tardis and a black kitty.

MINE !

It's 8 .5  x 11 inches so it's not super big and I have an idea where to put it on a small wall in the hallway or where MONA used to be in the bedroom so I am a happy girl.

I have been looking for art work for the house ever since the renovation and I know that I have some small  Real Musgraves somewhere but the Tardis/kitty is the first thing that I have seen that just spoke to me in that little demented voice in my head that said " Buy me now bitch ".

Yes, sometimes I let the voices win.

I will find what works for the guest bath sooner or later, I can't describe what I want but I will know it when I see it. I operate on instinct in a lot of my life and for the most part I've been pretty happy that way, it's kept me out of jail amongst other things...

Now all I have to do is find the proper mat and frame.

Note to husband....you've b een asking about Christmas prezzies for Moi and since you did such an outstanding job on the real Musgrave....just an idea honey..

Have a great Friday.

More Mundane Than Manic Mondays Lately It Seems ......

I know, I know it's been a while.
No, I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth, it just seems that way.

There just has not been anything going on, I'm even beginning to bore my own bad self.

I'm good, he's good, kittys are good, house is good, jobs are good tho they do indeed suck sometimes..it is what it is.

I haven't been doing any baking lately because I just haven't made much progress on the weekends beyond laundry  , chores and the kindle on the deck with Gracie.

We , the girls and I have developed clearly divided mommy and me time.

Gracie is happiest when she and I have our outside time. She won't yammer longer than about 10 minutes to go in/out  in/out...lather , rinse , repeat.

Boshi on the other hand is happiest when Gracie is out and she has my undivided attention. She makes full use of my lap and is happy to just hang out there. SBHe has gotten better around her daddy since she is used to him giving her treats so she won't run off quite as fast and in fact latgely has been approaching him more..not head butts ( I'd faint clean away ) but the interest is there.

Christmas cards have been ordered from MD Anderson Childrens Cancer project so I will be able to start on them soon, I have the list of things that I need to pick upi for gifts and I need to get that in motion since we and by we I mean my department is going to be very short staffed next month....more so than the norm that they pull. One of the gals husband is  going to have knee replacement surgery so she till be out from the 19'th of December through January 6, 2014..yeezus..2014.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyhoo....the other one has already scheduled 3 days off In December and I am sure that there will be more to come....

Since neither one came to work today and it was not scheduled in a traditional sense . WE ALL know ( the entire office ) knows that Cha Cha won't be in the day after A Texans game....no matter when the game starts. I kid you not. The other one, bum knee wifey...no clue...I've heard truck problems which happens.

So I am my own department today.

I am one of the pro's from Dover...lmao...name that movie !

Ah...good to be back posting...

Have a great week.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

Happy Friday everyone !
I know it's been a while ..what can I say ?
It's been a combo platter of getting used to a new environment at the Casa and frankly just nothing of any real interest to write about .

I mean really....how many f'g recipes usig pumpkin are out there ? I swear I have seen them all. Have you ever noticed that some food item it the thing of the moment much less the year ? Well this year it is pumpkin. I am not actively going out of my way to find things to read/pin that don't use this item..yeah...lottsa luck there.

We've had the boat load of rain over the last few days and now that it's dry....thank you Jeebus. Last Sunday we lost power for 5 hours so I do what I do best..I rolled over and went back to sleep..yeah for ME ! It finally came back on and woe to any living creature that got between me and the coffee pot...I got skillz !  The yard had a bunch of debris but the roof was okay..yeah, that is the first thing..actually secong thing after coffee..lol..I checked the roof because since it was a year old, this kind of storm would be the one that would show the damages. Unfortunatly , out neighbot ( not the gals ) had another tree ripped out of her flower bed..so she is not a happy camper. This tree replaced to 40 year old eucalyptus tree that Ike ripped out so perhaps she should consider not replacing it..knowing Kay, that won't happen , too much drama to be wasted..mwahahah..she's like that .

And of course it is the time of the year where hisself has all these plans ..golf...Ren fest...he can't resist being out and about while I am just as happy puttering around or losing what little mind I have left playing candy Crush.

Before we know it , the full on consumer press for the holidays will here....oh wait....it's already here..

Le sigh.

Have a great weekend and if you're on the East Coast ( LADY L....You ...Yes  YOU..) please be careful..hear y'all have some high wind headed your way.

Stay safe.

Just Another Manic Monday ~ !

First of all, mea culpa for all of those ghastly typo's in the previous post. Blogger is still acting up and if I don't catch them right away , I can't go back in and fully edit/correct. Y'all know me so it could and has been worse so there you go.

It's that time of year when the weather is one of two things..hot or rainy. I prefer the rainy since we really need it but I'll take what I can get. Hisself had to work on Saturday which was fine since I could putter around with laundry . He came home to get the old dvr box and I askedd him to pick up a bag of potting soil and red mulch..then I stopped and said that since I had some empty clay pots on the deck ( oh horrible hell) could he pick up a couple of somethings ...you know the cute variety ? Yup...now I know for the most part that it will be mums which is fine for a bit of fall , not in a comitted relationship kind of thing but them he surprised me with the above . I believe it is called Oxalis and is is really cute..full shade which is perfect for the pot that is next to the prayer plant wwe werew given a year ago after my stepmothers passing ( miracle of miracles..I haven't killed that one yet....But here's the thing, according to some of the reading that I did on the Oxalis, it is considered clover or dollar weeds prettier, Tri Delt pledge ..but still a weed.

Um..okay.

Lets get a tiny grip here, shall we ?

I don't know about anyone else but if a plant that I have not planted pops up in the flower bed of container that is not one I selected..it's a weed. Some are prettier than others true, but if I didn't plant ya ...don't get all green giant cocky and think you won't be yanked because you bloom or could pass for a flower.

I want to finish top dressing all of the clay pots this week if I can ..it may take a bit since you know who over did it din the drizzle yesterday..made sense to me since all of the soil would be damp and easy to work.

Time will tell.

Have a great week.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of the Day ~ !

Yes...I'm back so to speak.

It's been a very hard week as I am sure you all are aware and I have found that when this kind of thing happens, sometimes I just have to step away.

Losing the four of them in the last year and a half is something that we could never have imagined in our wildest dreams .I find myself shaking my head in utter disbelief when I think about it . It was hard enough to go through the 3 1/2 years with Xena and her issues, but it became our normal after a short while and we really didn't think too much about it one way or the other, it simply was the way it was. Did we get irritated , of course we did . It was hard then impossible to keep the carpet clean with her rampant diarrhea. Back and forth to Banfield for tests and more tests until there was nothing that could be gained and we had to change vets. I wish we had done that sooner but hindsight is what it is and even Dr. Tom says that while he might not hav e been able to save her, he would have fought harder and I believe him .

Munchkin and ANdy, well that was different. Like Jakey J, we knew from the beginning that being FIV + put a certain challenge to raising Andy and like Jakey J , it was renal failure. It wasn't prolonged and we did the best we couldv . Munchkin..well...she was our oldest child together and pneumonia can be deadly in animals as well as humans.

But Loki....?

It was only a few months that we dealt with his situation. Ironically , like Xena , he had IBD but his presented completeely diffrentley. With Xena , her bodycould not absorb all the food and water she would take in so to be blunt..well..it's gptta go somewhere...and it did. But she was failing to maintain any weight. LOki on the other hand had intestinal walls that were 3 x's normal density and his GI tract became irritated..and so he dropped weight too.

Boshi for now is fine, and yes we are going to be taking her in for a well kitty base line check up ..when things are in a normal routine.

We have never been a 2 cat household.....ever.

We have always adopted 2 by 2 or 3 as in the triplets case. I think that the reason that Boshi always seemed so skitty kitty was that she was lost in the numbers and was not prone to be assertive.

She is now more verbal and less skitty, as if she has come into her own now .

Gracie is still more outdoor than in and I have to say that for all her tom boy-ish behavior, she was very kind to all of the kids in their last days .

It's sad, but oddly calmer at the house now.

I don't know what quite make of it.

Have a great weekend.

For My Baby Dude

Dear Loki,
You were the BEST BOY for Dr. Tom, Daddy and I were so proud of you . I know that you are going to be okay because all of your bubbies and sissies and puppy cousins are up there and have Nip-Tini's and Tuna waiting just for you. Boshi wanted me to be sure to tell you that she misses you and she will be a good girl and will take care of the house. Gracie Marie will take care of the yard and will continue to take care of Aunt Lee Lee and Cindy Lou Who.

We love you baby and we will miss you every day..now run along.....I hear the bag of Treatio's being opened.

Uncle John sends his love too and says that you will like Buster and Casper so there you go baby.

Always..kissy face , love the poo.

Mama and Daddy.

Our Regular Programming Will Continue After This Brief Commercial Break....

Okay.

I am still here even though I haven't posted in what seems like eons.

I don't want to go into details just yet, but we have had to make "that " descision about Loki . It will be sooner than later and while I am at peace with our choice ( as much as I can be ) , our focus is on our baby dude right now.

I appreciate all of the comments over the course of the last 6 or 7 years and know that there are many dear harts that I have come to love that understand this..

I'll write more when I can.

Love to all

ARRRGGHHHH ~ It's Talk Like A Pirate Day ! ~

Happy September 19'th y'all ....oops mateys !

This is my second favorite holiday after Bastille Day so of course I had to find a proper image to post here. Funny thing is that if you google " Pirate Images" , the majority of the results will be the Pirates of The Caribbean variety with one or two exceptions, my favorite of which was the poster for " Ice Pirates." but me being me , I went with my favorite as shown above. It's just faster and easier to go back through the post archives than to search for a new image.

And..I am still in a cage match with my sinuses. I managed to stay up until 8:15 because ION network reruns episodes of " Numbers " on Wednesday nights and I don't care if I have seen it before , I need my Epps fix much like an NCIS marathon on the weekend...winner winner chicken dinner. I suspect that tonight will be more of the same. I ran into Miss Jere Lee at Kroger last night and we commiserated over our shared enemy . She told me that one of her close ( proximity, not personal chum) co-workers had been sick since Monday and finally went to the Dr . yesterday ( Wednesday ) and the outcome was not surprising..the Flu . ....respiratory not stomach. Yatzee !....yep..today we can get the flu shot at the office but I suspect that I am still running a bit of fever so I will pass .

It's odd to think of it being almost the end of September and therefore damn near officially fall. Yes football is back to So9uthside Johnny's everlasting joy but it's still hotter than hell down here so the idea of autumn is far fetched in many ways. We are watching the tropics again, praying for rain so I can't really muster up any yippee-ness for the new Chadwicks catalog. I do need to get more organized about a VAST majority of things at the house so that I can think....holiday and by this I mean Christmas crap will be overflowing sooner than later so brace for impact kids...

At least tomorrow is Friday...

Senseless Drivel On Tuesday

Yep.

It's Tuesday and my mind is wandering.
It's wandering and wondering...

Is Amazon the only place I can get both Mallomars and Al Dente Spinach pasta ?

How in the world did I forget to DVR the new season opener for Bones ?

Why is it okay for some people to look right through you when you say " Good Morning " or Good Evening " to them but if you fail to reply if the situation was in fact reversed , you have an " attitude ?"

Why am I the only one that sees where the cat urped on the bed ?

Ditto the dead cockroach ?

It's been a month since vacation, did I think the wood floors were self cleaning and if they are not , why ?

Le Sigh.
I have been felled by sinuses again , and am curious as to how long I will make it before I crash tonight. Last night was 7:45..yep..you heard it here. Dining at Denny's at 4:30 cannot be far off.

Maybe I will dream of Mallomars..damn Pinterest and all of the food posts.

Have a great what ever the hell tomorrow is.

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

And y'all thought I wasn't going to continue with HFBOTD just because " Burn Notice " is no more ?
Silly rabbits.

I was completely entranced with the final episode . Everyone was true to the essence of their character and yes, I cried like a toddler when Madeline made her sacrifice but it was so true to her character, the ultimate need to protect her boys and her extended family that while upsetting I could find no fault in the logic of it. There was no other choice, she knew that she didn't have the skills or stamina to get Charlie to safety, there simply wasn't time . Her character throughout the series had been conflicted by a certain amount over the fact that there were times she felt she had failed to protect her sons from their fathers abuse so possibly in this way she was having a moment of atonement .

Sam..what can I say about my Sam.
He would never have been that angry with Michael or frightened for him if he had not honestly felt the love of a brother and best friend for Michael. At one point I was afraid that Michael was  going to shoot Sam when they were on the way to "meet " Fiona. His teary eyed reaction as he explained to all the others that Michael might in fact be lost to them said it all.

Jesse..Oh dear...his love for this family and Madeline said it all. He was the perfect protector for Charlie.

Fiona..Oh you wonderful psycho woman you . I wanted you to kill Sonya honey , I really did , but your abiding faith in your Michael made the end perfect . I understand your being with Carlos, you had to try at least to make a new life but it was half hearted at best and everyone knew that.

I will miss the writing and of course my Sam Axe aka Chuck Findley but never fear...

HFBOTD shall live on.

Have a great weekend.

We miss our big girl .

The Loki Report ~ Part 2 ~

I am just a walking mass of mixed feelings right now.

Dr. S ( I can neither spell nor pronounce the Dr.s last name properly so  for sanity sake it will be simply Dr. S.) called Gordy while Gordy was at work . Given the nature of Gordy's work, it is very hard for him to hear a call so he called me asking that I return the call. I had intended to call the vet's office anyway because for the 4'th day in a row, Loki completely urped ( at times with impressive trajectory ) the antibiotic up. Plus any food in his tummy so I knew this was an " Oh shit " moment.

We had been waiting for the results of the thyroid panels and they all came back fine so it is really a case of age.

Our number one son is 13 years old which translates into approximately 68 in human years . Not really old but remember that they were abandoned and then found at the age of  5 days old sans kitty mama. Loki was sooo damn'd determined to live that he had one eye open...almost fully open at the age of 5 days !

Onward...

I told Dr. S about the vomiting and that I was not goiogn to give eit to him and Dr. S agreed , saying that evidently it was too much for my boy. It was then that we got to the "meat " of the conversation. Dr. S and the rest of the staff had reviewed all of the charts and reports and concluded that there was really tnothing that they could do for Loki and that nature would just take it's course. I did mention that when Loki hd been given a B-12 shot and the steroid shot that he seemd to perk up but Dr. S calmly reminded me that this was only going to last for about 2 weeks each time and that then it would be 2 week appt, shot...peppy , wind down ...lather, rinse repeat and that it would be hard on him. At this point I verbalized that " So these shots are really more for us than him ? " and Dr. S said yes....

On the one hand, thank Bast it's not cancer ( Like Jake) or FIV ( Like Andy) or Kidney ( Keesha, and Bubba ) or Pneumonia ( Munchkin) or IBS ( Xena) , FIL ( Oogie) Auto ( Missy), Food Poisoning ( Sarge) Stroke ( Peaches and Casey - Mother of Bubba , Grandmother of Peaches ) ....it's just old age....

But...

I was almost hoping that it was thyroid , something fixable. We could do something !!

Nope.

I should be happy or relieved at the very least and yet all I am is profoundly and deeply sad.

I remember each and every fur baby that has graced my life and I know that all of the above, Buster ( brother John's cat) and the girl's Shi Tsu's Gumbo and Nici are going to make room at the Bridge...I just can't shake the sadness. I should be at peace with this and I am trying but I guess today is not the day.

It will be okay.

Just Another Manic Monday ~ The Loki Report ~

Well kids, I am back from vacay and it was wonderful . Now that my aged body has finally figured wtf time zone I am in , I thought I'd update on number one son Loki .

He had his appt . after a 3 week interval and all in all did very well. His weight is the same..huge yeah. In our house it is a good thing when no one loses weight...except for the Mama and Daddy but that is a whole other issue....

The elevated white count seems a bit better and they are going to be doing further thyroid testing, which if this is the issue there is a non surgical treatment to consider. Yeah !  Non surgical for the win every time !!

But..if it is not his thyroid, then we are faced with a simple fact.

He is 13.

He is NOT my baby wooby diddums kitteh anymore. This may be just the beginning of that end of the aging process where it is what it is . The Vet basically said that unless we get a thyroid hit and or something drastic happens...there is no real reason to bring him back every 2 weeks . Yes the steroid shots and the b 12 helped a bit..but that is all it was...a bit. He is still happy and perky and active and whiny and needy and verbal...his own damn self .

Yes we have a 2x daily antibiotic to give him but he threw it up so I want to see what happens for another day before I call Dr. Tom..knowing Loki he might have just been pissed off enough to urp .

And......of course we were both in tears  when we talked about this at the house. Losing a baby is never easy and we have lost 3 in the last year and a half due to various medical issues . I will always mourn each and every loss as will Gordy....but in the last year and a half, we have learned to get better at accepting that it is indeed what it is and I shall continue to be grateful for every day that I have them..cause I AM the Mama, just as he IS the Daddy.

Oh Noes ~ It's Way Too Early For This !

My poor husband.

Since we are on vacay this week, I didn't make up any eggs for my usual bacon and egg brekky tacos, it seemed silly for only three days this week. When this happens we hit out favorite small donut shop and so there we were this morning. He goes in and as I wait in the car, I see that he opens the door for another customer...good boy.

Poor man was behing and down wind of here and when he had come back to the car, I could tell that he had basically flipped his shit. Seems that the other patron doused/ingested/bathed in/gargled in an uber sickly sweet fragrance ...ala Pepe Le Pew.

" Welcome to my daily world " I replied.

" Honey, I deal with this every damn day , and I remind him of the more than occassional instance where I get in the car and lay the seat flat so that I can sleep on the way home before I crawl in bed to offset the worst of the promised migraine."

Neither of us understand this need, especially when the offender seems to think that saying that they themselves have no sense of smell makes this okay.

Gah !

Ciao,
Aunty Pol who is on vacay and may or may not be poting from the west coast....stay tuned y'all.

Just Another Manic Monday

My mama said I could do this post because I was such a good boy for Dr. Tom on Saturday ....so here goes.

I AM DOING MORE BEDDER !

I haven't gained any weight , but I haven't lost  any either, not even with vomiting up my foods which I haven't done lately and I must be special because I got 4 whole shots. I got my steroid and an aunty biotic ( does that mean I am a bionic kitty ?) and a B-12 and one other. I like the B-12 and maybe if I am a good boy I can have a B-52 ( No dear...they are a band ..silly boy ) and I really like the B-12. I ran and played and ate and was all kinds of cheerful even before mama laid out the nip on our rug for being Casturday and all so..my mama and daddy are really happy that I don't need to have any more stinky crap throwed down my lil throat any more and mama can go see my Aunty Lael and the big fellah and not stay home to take care of me....me and Uncle Johnny and my aunties are gonna take good care of us .

I wonder what mama is going to bring us back. I deserve prezzies.

Gotta go, it's nappy time .

Loki Lo the number one son baby dude .

( Other than the fact that his white count is really elevated , we will wait to hear from Dr. Tom...yeah for no f'g meds down his throat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )

Happy Friday ~ Bruce Of The Day ~ !

Happy Friday People !

Well, I have made an executive descision.....I have a hair appt. this afternoon for the slappage of the color on the gourd , so since I have not been a happy camper in this " growing out the hair bs" , I am cutting it off.

Yep.

Buh Bye.

Google " Rosario Mera" and you will see the cut I am going after...

Anyhoo, it's gonna be another one of those manic weekends. Loki has a 10 am appt with Dr. Tom and I did call to check...we DO need to pull all of the food/kibble so that there is nothing by mouth after 10 pm...and close all of the bedroom doors to limit his mobility so that we can " escort " him to the ptu ..joy...followed by the usual nail appt for Moi and then husband is going to the Dynamo game with the crazy Cajun's and he is playing golf Sunday.

Whee !

Southside Johnny  is coming over Sunday so that we can go over the babysitting details and I am going to need to have a talk with him. I know that he is capable of kitty sitting but he does not realize that Jere Lee is in a soft boot because of some foot problems so I am expecting the younger brother to step it up a bit.

We shall see.

Time to boogie..

Have a great weekend.

Manners Do Count !

http://cookiesandcups.com/2-ingredient-white-chocolate-buttercream/

After my last post, as is my custom ( okay..so busted here, I just got through reading an article about Colin Firth aka MY Mr.Darcy and am feeling a tad wordy this morning ..lmao ) , I read my other blogs that I follow. I have been a fan of Miss Shelly , a former Texas gal ( just a matter of real estate, never an actual state of mind) and author of cookies and cups for a long time.

After I grabbed my virtual pearls in near swoon , having read the 2 ingredient white chocolate butter cream post with pictures y'all..I wrote to her and asked if I may put up a picture and link.

Bless her heart, she answered right away and soonce again it is proven :

Manners count.

Now, my blog is just my sanity/self indulgence and I have never claimed otherwise. If I find a post in another blog that I like, I sincerely make every efdfort to contact the author and ask permission. I give them my blog address so that they can check it out because Bast knows I can go off the rails in a well deserved/earned rant ( and f'proud of it y'all) but ..I still think it's the polite thing to do to let the original author see where his or her baby post will end up . I am very territorial about this lil blog and so I accord others the same emotion.

Anyhoo....go check out her blog, it's pretty, well written and just a plain old hoot.

Happy Friday Eve Y'all.
Ciao,
Aunty Pol
