New York Bar Serves Up Wine in Baby Bottles
In this economy, restaurants are constantly searching for ways to get customers in the door...but this is some stupid shit!
One NYC establishment has found a unique gimmick. They serve wine by the bottle. Not the kind you're thinking of, but in glass baby bottles.
Follow the candlelit path from Prince Street to the under underground French restaurant, "Le Cave Des Foundus". It's small and and cozy with long communal tables.
Most patron start with Le Cave's famous fondue. And the wine comes out in their infamous glass baby bottles."If you're not used to it you might be a little bit afraid about it", said Le Cave owner, Jacques Ouari. Fearless, Ouari snagged the idea from a Parisian restaurant that started the practice to avoid a French tax on stemware.Although baby bottle wine is hardly the norm in Normandy, it seems to be picking up steam in Soho."You don't expect it when you come here, and then it just surprises you", said one patron nursing their own bottle.Baby bottles are eight bucks a pop, which feels like a big buzz bargain. Yet, some find it a little creepy. "Yes, yes it is (a little creepy)", said one waiter. "But that's the fun of it."Also up for dispute, does drinking wine from a baby bottle make you feel the effects of the alcohol faster? The waiter says no, but some patrons say yes. Regardless, no one is acting like babies here. They're just out for good time."It's a fun thing and in this economy you want to be more friendlier", said Ouari. "That's what we need is to get the smile back!"Le Cave Des Fondus can be found at 20 Prince Street in New York City.
